photographs...

I have decided to compare my magazine cover to a few others.
Long, Mid and Close Up shots.
Long Shot

Mid shot
Close Up

Looking at these photos I have established that my chosen picture for my front cover is a long shot. Using these different shots gives more of an impact on the audience. for example, a close up shows more facial expressions whereas the long shot shows the whole body, this could be seen (if provocative) as titilation, which widens the audience and makes the magazine more appealing to different demographics.

2nd image

With the image above i just took out the background and made it black and white

With this image to my left, i cut out the person on the right and made the image black and white

editing images.

This was the image before i took out the background and made it black and white. I used the final image in the top right corner of my contents page.
I decided to use this shot because its a good facial expression that appeals to the target demographic.

Links for pictures, fonts etc...

I didnt use the fonts the Photoshop provided. I did some research on fonts and chose one from a website called www.urbanfots.com The font i chose was called 'Beyond Wonderland'
I liked this font, it stood out to me than the other ones. and it also fitted in with the theme of the magazine. for instance, worn, edgy, unique feel.

For my barcode i used one i found just by searching 'barcode' in google images. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://blogs.asee.org/goengineering/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/barcode.gif&imgrefurl=http://blogs.asee.org/goengineering/lesson-cracking-the-code/comment-page-1/&usg=__R4VGcxT6VA25jXtawazEF06JCv4=&h=480&w=640&sz=13&hl=en&start=4&sig2=yVpPOmWp8I2wNaKTLbeWMA&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=tXsjQaeYYv9SXM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbarcode%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1T4SKPB_enGB322GB322%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=C720S8r1I5GC4Qar4rm6Dg

comparison...

When you compare my preliminary task to my final piece you can see such a drastic difference between the two. i have learnt to use photoshop better and my photos are edited more professionally.

My final magazine...

This is my final magazine front cover, double page spread and contents page. I found myself spending alot of time on the double page spread. i have written alot, probably not needed. I have used a big interesting quote and spread it across the page, i find that i am more likely to read the whole article if something like that grabs my attention. the quote was 'I have a very naughty side' this is explained in the article.
I took alot of care on my contents page, i really enjoyed creating this. i have used pictures that i have taken, and some that i havnt. I have permission from the person who took it and have done this because i wanted to use a contrast of images.
I distorted the images by making some of them black and white to fit with the theme i wanted to portray from my contents.
My front cover was made to give a fresh, new look on magazine interpretations. I wanted to make my front cover appeal to a wide range of audience, i feel that i managed to reach out to teens and young adult females but not so much male audience, realising this in my contents i decided to put a male artist on the contents, this could attract a more male audience. Also i felt that my magazine was attracting only people of a white british background, So i decided to feature artists from different culture to appeal to a wider audience. I used a date, barcode, website, feature story, these are all the basic conventions of a magazine.
